A new satellite always presents new opportunities for all players involved
One satellite company that is aggressively pursuing expansion plans is Russia-based operator Gazprom Space Systems (GSS). At the recent IBC show in Amsterdam, GSS announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with global satellite operator SES to provide additional satellite capacity to serve the Russian market. Under the terms of a multi-year agreement, SES has re-located its ASTRA 1F satellite previously located at 51 degrees East to the orbital location 55 degrees East. GSS will utilize 16 Ku-band FSS transponders on the ASTRA 1F satellite to provide communication services for Western Russia prior to the launch of GSS’ Yamal-402 satellite in 2012. In return, SES will use capacity on GSS’ Yamal-402 once it becomes operational at 55 degrees East. Yamal-402 is currently under construction and scheduled for launch in November 2012. To shed light on this agreement and their future plans, Satel-lite Executive Briefing spoke to GSS’ Deputy Director-General Igor Kot.

Gazprom Space Systems Achieve Key Milestones
Russia-based satellite operator Gazprom Space Systems (GSS) announced last month financial results for the fiscal year 2009. GSS reported US$ 71.8 million in revenues, 4 percent more in national currency than the previous year despite their satellites reaching full capacity two years ago. 2009 was the 10th anniversary of the launch of its first satellite-Yamal-100, which has been retired from service this summer. With increasing demand for its services, GSS have firmed up its expansion plans with three new satellites to be launched in the next three years. The aim, according to GSS’ Deputy Director-General Igor Kot, is to provide coverage to the entire Eastern Hemisphere and implement a wide variety of services.

Gazprombank granted Gazprom Space Systems credit lines with limits of RUR 1.8 billion and USD 94 million
Moscow, July 23rd. – Gazprombank has granted Gazprom Space Systems (Gascom) two credit lines with limits of RUR 1755 million and USD 94 million. The loan was granted in RUR for a term of 9 years. Loan designation is to finance work on development of a space system “Yamal-401” as well as launch of the space satellite. “Yamal-401” space system is being developed by a Russian subcontractor JSC “Informational Satellite Systems” Reshetnev Company. “Yamal-401” satellite will be launched by a launch vehicle “Proton - M”.

Keeping Focused on Growth, Partnerships
