Gazprom Space Systems completed the work at Africacom-2018

15 November 2018

Gazprom Space Systems (GSS) successfully exhibited at Africacom-2018, that took place on November 13-15 in Cape Town (Republic of South Africa).

The exposition of the company demonstrated the capabilities of Yamal satellites for service provision in African and Middle Eastern countries.

GSS operates on the African telecommunications market since 2013 after the launch of Yamal-402 in 55˚E orbital slot. Customers can operate both within the African footprint (the Southern beam) and use the interbeam connection between Europe and Africa. Wide Southern beam of Yamal 402 covers a large part of the African continent, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa, Madagascar and neighboring areas of the Indian Ocean. The quality of services for customers is determined by the high characteristics of Yamal-402 and good elevation angles, at which the satellite is visible from Africa.

Despite strong competition on the African market in recent years due to the appearance of a large number of new satellites, the capacity of Yamal-402 is very popular. Yamal-402 is often involved to provide services to enterprises, government institutions and population, as well as for live broadcasting of political, cultural and sports events in African countries. Optimal coverage of the African territory and Africa — Europe interbeam connection allows to arrange TV reportages as well as content transfer quickly and qualitatively both inside the African continent and from Africa to Europe.

Yamal-402 Southern beam is on a big demand for TV broadcasting in Angola, Cameroon, Lesotho, etc. Approximately a dozen of African TV channels are broadcasted via Telemedia company, our long-standing and reliable partner.

During Africacom 2018 the booth of Gazprom Space Systems was visited by company customers and partners, policy makers and media organizations.

Gazprom Space Systems managed to prolong and expend current contracts with satellite capacity customers, establish new opportunities and reach new agreements with potential customers.
