Satellite "Smotr-B"

Smotr-B is a state-of-the-art remote sensing satellite with a combined payload that will solve a wide range of industrial and environmental tasks:

The optical-electronic apparatus provides multispectral and panchromatic images of the Earth surface for solving tasks of condition monitoring and environmental monitoring of industrial facilities and adjacent areas, hard-to-access territories, including the Arctic ones

  • Satellite gas analyzer provides for detection of greenhouse gases, including emissions, methane.
  • Satellite orbit - solar-synchronous
  • Orbital altitude - 500 km
  • Spatial resolution of the optical camera - 0.5 m
  • Sensitivity of gas-analyzer - 250 kg per hour (Equivalent to 3 mm hole in a high-pressure gas pipeline)
  • Active life - 10 years
  • Planned year of launch - 2024
  • Manufacturing - Gazprom SPKA

The satellite will provide optical panchromatic and multispectral imagery of at least 80 000 thousand square kilometers per year with the resolution of 0.5 meters per pixel in the following modes

  1. frame imaging - imaging of 11 x 11 km scenes in the satellite swath;
  2. corridor imaging - imaging on one pass of randomly spaced scenes with a width of at least 11 km in the swath of ± 50 km from the satellite track
  3. area imagery - filming on one pass of rectangular scenes parallel to the satellite route with a width of at least 19.8 km;
  4. stereo imaging - imaging twice on the same turn of the same scene parallel to the satellite track with the same value but opposite direction of the pitch deviation angle in the range from 20° to 30°.

The satellite gas analyzer provides high spectral resolution video-spectral imaging of the specified areas of the Earth surface in the infrared range with geospatial coordinates referencing with quantitative determination of greenhouse gas emissions, including methane emissions from 250 kg/h.
