Gazprom Space Systems demonstrated new abilities in satellite TV broadcasting and broadband access services provision

31 January 2014

From January 28 till 30, 2014 the exhibition-forum CSTB-2014 took place in the Moscow exhibition centre Crocus Expo. It is the key professional annual media event, which covers all relevant directions of TV and telecommunication technologies. Gazprom Space Systems demonstrated new abilities which entered the Russian market thanks to Yamal-300K and Yamal-402 satellites. Footprints and power characteristics of new satellite capacity are optimal for promoting satellite TV broadcasting and broadband services in Russia.

For the development of TV broadcasting Gazprom Space Systems fitted up its satellite digital television centre. The new equipment allows coding, compression and multiplexing 32 additional TV channels. On the territory of the telecommunication centre in Shchelkovo a new powerful satellite Ku-band earth station with a 9m antenna was built. This earth station provides connection simultaneously in two linear orthogonal polarizations in both standard and planned frequency bands of Northern and Russian beams of Yamal-402. Here, one more hub began its work, through which the company began to provide broadband Internet access to Gazprom field camps.

Dmitriy Sevastiyanov, CEO of Gazprom Space Systems, addressed the forum section “Satellites as a basic solution for the delivery of a signal in Russia”.

Reviewing the future development of the orbital constellation, Dmitry Sevastiyanov reported that the company's next Yamal-401 satellite is going to be launched and located at the 90ºE orbital position in mid-2014. In early 2016 the current Yamal-202 satellite will be replaced by a more powerful Yamal-601 satellite which is going to expand the company's activities at providing services in Russia, including broadband services for Gazprom, corporate and consumer markets on the basis of satellite capacity of Ku- and Ka-band. It will also guarantee the steady business with Gazprom Space Systems foreign customers in C-band.
