Gascom Re-branding
Gascom was renamed to Gazprom Space Systems. The new name of the subsidiary was approved by the Order of the Chairman of the Gazprom board Mr. Aleksey Miller. The aim of Gazprom's subsidiaries re-branding is to consolidate the brand of the transnational corporation, to position Gazprom and its subsidiaries as a united Company meeting all the world reliability and quality standards.
Since December 1, 2008 the company has been registered under the new name. The main directions of Gazprom Space Systems activity:
- Creation of space systems for different applications (telecommunication satellites, remote sensing satellites);
- Building of infocommunications networks (for satellite communications, TV and radio broadcasting and aerospace monitoring);
- Supply of the services based on the own orbital constellation of Yamal telecommunications satellites on the Russian and international markets.
In the framework of the Russian Federal Space Program for 2006-2015 approved by the Russian Government on October 22, 2005 Gascom is responsible for the following programs implementation:
- Development of the orbital constellation of Yamal telecommunications satellites;
- Creation of PolarStar, mobile communication and radio broadcasting system, based on HEO satellites;
- Creation of SMOTR, remote sensing system (pipelines monitoring system), based on four LEO satellites.
Gazprom Space Systems is the successor of Gascom.
For information: Joint Stock Company Gascom was established in 1992 on Gazprom initiative with the assistance of NPO Energia and AB Gazprombank. Gascom is the second satellite communications operator in Russia.
Heritage:
1993-1995
- Creation of the communication network on the northern gas fields (Urengoy, Nadym, Yamburg, Yamal and others);
1995-1999
- Development and creation of Yamal-100, a new Russian communications satellite of a new generation;
- Development and deployment of the communication network for Gazprom subsidiaries;
- Development and deployment of the telecommunication network with the integration of the services of Mezhregiongas and Gazprombank companies;
- Development and deployment of the satellite digital TV system.
2000-2004
- Putting into operation of Yamal satellite communications and TV system;- Extension of Gazprom satellite telecommunications;
- Provision governmental, commercial and international users with the satellite services;
- Building of satellite TV and telecommunications systems for the Russian regions;
- Creation and launch of two new Yamal-200 satellites.
2005-2008
- Extension of the satellite services based on Yamal satellite orbital constellation (Yamal-100, Yamal-201 and Yamal-202) and the ground infrastructure (three teleports, satellite digital TV center, Gazprom network);
- Manufacture of the two Yamal-300 satellites;
- Design of the two Yamal-400 satellites;
- Development of PolarStar, mobile communication and radio broadcasting system;
- Development of SMOTR, remote sensing system.
