Gazprom Space Systems completed all the works scheduled for 2010 to create the satellite communication network on the Yamal Peninsula.

The main goal of the new network construction is to increase efficiency and safety of the air transportations on the Yamal Peninsula to the benefit of Gazprom in the conditions of the flights intensity permanent growth in the course of the new gas fields development. The created network is dedicated to provide communications between the air traffic control towers and radio-relay points of North Siberia Air Navigation – subsidiary of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise State ATM Corporation – to provide the information exchange when arranging traffic control of the aircrafts (helicopters and planes) on the Yamal peninsula.

The network will also be widely used to serve domestic and international routes of the civil aviation in the Northern latitudes.

Nine C-band satellite communications stations, including three new ones under construction, will be used in the network. Stations will operate via Yamal-201 satellite, which is located at the 90°E orbital position.

In 2010 in the framework of this project Gazprom Space Systems deployed satellite communications stations in Salekhard and also on Payuta station and in Hralov halt of Obskaya-Bovanenkovo railway line.

The completion of the network construction is scheduled for 2011.
