Angola Government TV Channels Now Broadcast on Yamal-402 Satellite

Telemedia (Republic of South Africa) and Gazprom Space Systems implemented broadcast of TV channels for the biggest Angola Government TV corporation Televisio Publica De Angola (TPA) via Yamal-402 satellite. Gazprom Space Syatems and Telemedia signed the contract under which the Russian satellite operator provides Yamal-402 Southern Beam satellite capacity.

Telemedia (Republic of South Africa) and Gazprom Space Systems implemented broadcast of TV channels for the biggest Angola Government TV corporation Televisio Publica De Angola (TPA) via Yamal-402 satellite. Gazprom Space Syatems and Telemedia signed the contract under which the Russian satellite operator provides Yamal-402 Southern Beam satellite capacity.

As Peter Bretherick, Managing Director of Telemedia says TPA decided to use Yamal-402 satellite due to its high EIRP of the transponder, which is particularly attractive for Direct-to-Home video in Angola, and it also enables them to cover all the regions of Angola including Cabinda and the Portuguese-speaking Islands of Sao Tome and Principe. Apart fr om that, wide coverage makes it possible to receive the TV channels in the Embassies of Angola throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.

Within this capacity two principal Angola Government TV channels TPA1 and TPA 2 and some radio channels are allocated. Furthermore, this capacity will be used for numerous contribution links to send News and Current Affairs Programs from the outlying regions of Angola back to Luanda.

Cooperation between Gazprom Space Systems and Telemedia has been developing since the beginning of this year when the South African operator using a 9m antenna located in a Johannesburg superb stated uplinking a bouquet of African TV programs wh ere three sports channels dedicated to horse racing are the most popular ones. These horse racing channels are interesting not only for Bookmakers and Betting Shops throughout South Africa but across the entire area of South and Central Africa from Dakar (Senegal) in the West to Mauritius, Reunion and Madagascar in the East. All these countries are target areas for the Horse Racing Services of Phumelela, the owner of these TV channels.

Gazprom Space Systems in partnership with Telemedia plan to further develop cooperation in African market both in television sector and data transfer and satellite Internet in African countries. At the moment negotiations with a set of large TV broadcasters ad Internet Service Providers are conducted.
