Earth Station for Gazprom Needs
Satellite communication network on northern gas deposits
The first network built by the company in the years 1993-1994 was the satellite communications network on northern gas deposits. Originally, it functioned through the Gorizont satellite and maintained the technological needs of Gazprom. Then it was switched to the Yamal-100 satellite launched in 1999. Now the network is functioning through the Yamal-201 and Yamal-202 satellites and consists of 24 C-band satellite communications ground stations with antennas 3.7, 4.5 and 5 meters in diameter. Teleports in Moscow and in Dolgoye-Ledovo are involved in its operation.
The network is controlled remotely and centrally from Gazprom Space Systems Moscow teleport.
Data network for Gazprom subsidiaries
The network was established at the end of the 1990-ies – at the beginning of the 2000-ies and put into operation in 2002.
Its purpose is to arrange operational and technological communications with providing data and telephony services.
The network consists of 25 C-band stations with antennas 3.7, 4.5 and 5 meters in diameter. The network connects Gazprom main office with subsidiaries by point-to-point satellite communications links and operates through the Yamal-201 and Yamal-202 satellites.
The network is controlled remotely from Gazprom Space Systems teleport.
Telecommunications system of Mezhregiongaz and Gazprombank
In 1997 Gazprom Board of Directors took a decision to establish a new telecommunications system with integration of services for gas sales and bank transactions. One staked on satellite communications. Gazprom Space Systems built a satellite communications system connecting the central office of the Mezhregiongaz company with its branch offices at the regional centеrs. The network started operation through the Yamal-100 satellite. Now it uses the Yamal-201 capacity and consists of 47 C-band satellite communications stations with antennas 3.7 meters in diameter. In 2009 the network was supplemented with two Ku-band stations using the DVB-RCS technology.
Satellite multi-channel digital TV and radio broadcasting system
Gazprom Space Systems first in Russia put into practice the digital satellite TV and radio broadcasting. The Digital Satellite TV Center was built in the late 1990-ies, and since that time Gazprom Space Systems has increased many times its capabilities of digital coding, compression and multiplexing of TV - and radio channels. This center and teleports of the company help to send up to the Yamal-200 satellites 54 TV channels and over 50 radio channels.
Another project implemented by the company is the satellite news gathering system (SNG). Its main purpose is to send reports from the places of top events for Gazprom and other customers.
Gazprom transgaz Yugorsk satellite communications network
The satellite communications network of the Gazprom Transgaz Yugorsk company (Tyumentransgaz) was built in the period of the years 2002-2004. It includes 24 ground stations with antennas 3.7, 4.5 and 6 meters in diameter. The network supports the technological process of gas transportation, uniting the central office of the company with the compressor stations of gas pipelines, and supports telephony and data.
The network operates through the Yamal-201 satellite (С-band) and is controlled remotely from the Gazprom Space Systems teleport located at Gazprom main office in Moscow
Gazprom bureniye satellite communications network
The Gazprom bureniye company (Burgaz) performs drilling of gas output wells. Gazprom bureniye widely introduces automated systems for monitoring technological, geological and geophysical processes of drilling. Built in the years 2003-2004, the satellite network for this company transmits on-line data in the real-time mode to the different subdivisions of Gazprom bureniye – from the drilling site to the central office of the company.
The network consists of Gazprom Space Systems central ground station located at Gazprom central office in Moscow, five fixed ground stations at Gazprom bureniye company branches and five transportable satellite communications stations designed as containers and located immediately on the drilling sites.
The fixed ground stations have antenna diameters from 2.4 to 4.5 meters and the transportable stations – 1.2 meters.
The network operates through the Yamal-201 satellite (С-band) and is controlled remotely from Gazprom Space Systems teleport located at Gazprom central office in Moscow.
Gazprom videoconferencing system
The videoconferencing system united Gazprom central office with forty subsidiaries. A part of communications lines is organized using terrestrial facilities (in the Moscow digital communications zone) and video conferencing with 25 regional companies is provided through the satellite. Due to videoconferencing system the company management procedure by means of videoconferences has become already a firm working practice of Gazprom and is used by the company top management as well as in the interests of separate departments and subsidiaries. The works on deployment were carried out in the years 2003-2005. Later on, the system was supplemented by three transportable videoconferencing satellite stations.
Networks based on the DVB-RCS technology
Until recently all networks in the interests of Gazprom Group were established in the С-band. However, lately after Gazprom Space Systems had introduced a DVB-RCS satellite multi-service platform it became possible to implement efficient economical solutions in the Ku-band. And a number of Gazprom Group enterprises has made already use of this communications technology.
